I wanted to compile the best free resources I have encountered this past year for science and data visualization. Here’s to better science communication in 2020!

Datavis
The Data Visualization Catalogue
Love this! A visual library of different types of graphs organized by function, this is an excellent reference when faced with graphical writer’s block.

See also from Data to Vis, a website devoted to education around data visualization best practices. This site dives into the pros and cons of different graph types.

Colour Resources
Colorbrewer
Ever spent 30 minutes trying to come up with the perfect colour scheme for your dataset? You can stop procrastinating now with this colour scheme generator, which helps you pick a palette for different types of data, and checks for colorblind accessibility to boot.

Data Libraries
These libraries contain rich open source datasets for protein structure, interactive neuroanatomy, histological data, and gross anatomy.
Digital Morphology Museum
Scalable Brain Atlas
Comparative Mammalian Brain Collections
Brain Maps
Protein Data Bank
Cell Image Library
